The Importance of a Positive Mindset in Recruitment

No matter what industry you’re in, there will always be good days and bad days. But when you’re just starting out in recruitment, the highs and lows can feel extremely exaggerated. After all, it’s not called the recruitment rollercoaster for nothing.

That’s why, when developing induction programmes and thinking about the development of your trainee recruitment consultants, it’s as important to cover the mindset aspects of the role as it is recruitment process. After all, a positive mindset is essential for weathering the occasional storm and coming out on top.

So what does a positive mindset look like in a recruitment consultant? First and foremost, it’s about having a growth mindset. This means viewing every setback as an opportunity to learn and grow, instead of a reason to give up. It also means being resilient in the face of rejection and maintaining a positive attitude even when things are tough. Finally, it’s about having faith in your own abilities and trusting that you have what it takes to succeed.

In a recent live coaching session one of the rookies raised the question of good days verses bad days. They asked Jeremy:

I’m really enjoying being in recruitment – clearly there are days that are good and then there are the not so good days. How do you recommend getting through these not so successful days? Do you have any tips?

Of course, cultivating a positive mindset is not always easy – but it’s definitely worth it. Because when your new team members start seeing the ups and downs of recruitment as part of the journey instead of roadblocks, they’ll be well on their way to success.
